Hungry Blogger. Why does blogger keep eating the attributes of my HTML tags on my template? Is it hungry? Amazing. It's amazing the amount of damage one idiot with a mechanical digger can cause. Calvino ReduxIf, on a winters night a traveller outside the town of Malbork leaning from the steep slope without fear of wind or vertigo looks down in the gathering shadow in a network of lines that enlace, in a network of lines that intersect on the carpet of leaves illuminated by the moon around an empty grave what story down there awaits it's end? I'm particularly enjoing the tricks he is playing with viewpoint, layering the viewpoints so that third person, second person and first person are all involved, and switch around from time to time. Exceptionally cunning. Wednesday, August 14, 2002
Culture ContactI was particularly amused, at first by Mish's ( my Czech partner ) first viewing of The Weakest Link. She was horrified by the concept and by the fact it was a poupular telvision program in an important time slot. She complained bitterly how it undoes two hundred years of humanist education and encourages people to pick on people who are different. i.e 'The Weakest Link.'. At first I thought she was granting too much siginificance to the programme, but considering Anne Robinsons plan to put the Welsh in Room 101 ( Paul Merton: "Didn't Hitler have ideas like that?" ) might give one pause to consider the reaction to be not completely unjustified. The glories of a long lost ageI've been doing my bit for the Creative Commons and working on a Windows build of a game called Omega, written while the humble 286 still ruled the world. It's a nicely plotted game, with lots of humour. And it's hard. Real hard, but it doesn't run on Windows, has no graphics (yet). All these things can be fixed, though. If you run Linux or you have a Mac, then you might be in luck. Saturday, August 10, 2002
Blogpuddle MartyrIt seems that the world of Blogging has it's first matyr. Here's the google cache of the blog in question. "Banjo Jones" is the nom de plume of one Steve Olafson of the Houston Chronicle. The Register is already on the case. I think he just bought a minor celebrity for himself.. Tuesday, August 06, 2002
DeadlockI have done a little more work on Deadlock. At last I have a client and server that talk to each other. The multiplayer game code always seems more like magic than any other aspect of coding. Lo! Computer shall talk unto computer. And what will they say..? I will write up a short tutorial about the SDL net. library as there doesn't seem to be much useful documentation on using it. |
The Journal

Other topics presented are speculative fiction and imaginary cities. There are appearences of snippets of work in progress, public rants, pointless posts and Mish the Mouse. The Writer
A lower middle class cyborg living an innocous life in a suburban village near Newcastle On Tyne, in the United Kingdom. Mostly autobiographical and creative notes posts and musings on the topic du jour. Archives
